600x600 mm Tiles (2x2 ft): Uses, Coverage and Tips
600x600 mm (2x2 ft) is the most common floor tile size for Bengaluru homes. Coverage per tile, tiles per 100 sq ft, tile types and laying tips.

600x600 mm, or 2x2 ft, is the everyday floor tile size in most Bengaluru homes. It works in almost any room, is easy for tilers to handle, and comes in more tile types and designs than nearly any other size.
Size in feet and where it is used
600 x 600 mm is about 2 x 2 ft (2 ft is about 610 mm, so the tile is slightly smaller). You will see it in:
- Living rooms, bedrooms and dining areas
- Apartment corridors and lobbies
- Shops and offices
- Kitchens and balconies, in matt or anti-skid versions
Coverage per tile
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 600 x 600 mm (about 2 x 2 ft) |
| Area per tile | about 3.88 sq ft |
| Tiles per 100 sq ft (before wastage) | about 26 |
The working: 600 x 600 = 360,000 sq mm, divided by 92,903 sq mm per sq ft, gives 3.875, which rounds to 3.88 sq ft. A 12 x 12 ft room (144 sq ft) needs about 38 tiles before wastage, so plan on around 40 to 42 with extra. The tile calculator works this out for any room.
Box quantities vary by manufacturer, so we do not quote a number. Check the box or ask at the counter.
Tile types you usually find in this size
- Double charge vitrified tiles, popular for durability
- GVT and PGVT in marble, stone and plain designs
- Soluble salt vitrified tiles and full body tiles
- Matt, glossy and anti-skid finishes
Laying and handling tips
- The size is easy to lay straight, so it forgives small errors in older homes where walls are not perfectly square.
- Start the layout from the centre or from the most visible doorway so that cut pieces end up under furniture or along walls.
- Keep joints narrow (2 to 3 mm is common for vitrified tiles) and use spacers. See our grout and spacers guide.
- Buy all boxes from one batch so the shade matches across the room.
