300x600 mm Tiles (1x2 ft): Uses, Coverage and Tips

300x600 mm tiles suit modern bathroom and kitchen walls and some floors. See coverage per tile, tiles per 100 sq ft and practical laying tips.

300x600 mm tiles

300x600 mm is the size many people now pick for a cleaner, more modern bathroom wall. Fewer joints than 300x450, still easy for a tiler to handle, and available in both wall and floor versions depending on the series.

Size in feet and where it is used

300 x 600 mm is about 1 x 2 ft. You will usually see it on:

  • Bathroom walls, laid vertically or horizontally
  • Kitchen walls and backsplashes
  • Outdoor elevation walls, in stone-look or textured versions
  • Small floors such as bathrooms and balconies, when the tile is made for floors

Laying and handling tips

  • Long rectangular tiles can have a slight bow. For brick bond, keep the offset to about one-third rather than half to avoid uneven edges (lippage).
  • Tile adhesive gives a more even bed than thick cement mortar for this size. See adhesive vs cement mortar.
  • On walls, plan the layout so cut pieces land in less visible corners, not at the door side.
  • Use levelling clips if your tiler has them, especially for glossy tiles where any step between tiles shows.

Common questions

How many 300x600 mm tiles do I need for 100 sq ft?

Each tile covers about 1.94 sq ft, so roughly 52 tiles for 100 sq ft before wastage. Add 5 to 10 percent for cuts and breakage.

Are 300x600 tiles only for walls?

Many are wall tiles, but some are made as floor tiles too, including matt and anti-skid versions. Check what the tile is rated for before using it on a floor.

What is the best laying pattern for 300x600 tiles?

Straight stack and brick bond are common. If you offset rows, a one-third offset is usually safer than half, because long tiles can have a slight bow in the middle.

How many 300x600 tiles come in a box?

It varies by manufacturer and thickness, so ask for the box quantity of the specific design you choose.
