300x450 mm Tiles (1x1.5 ft): Uses, Coverage and Tips
300x450 mm wall tiles are a common pick for bathroom and kitchen walls. See coverage per tile, tiles per 100 sq ft and tips for fixing them neatly.

300x450 mm is one of the most familiar wall tile sizes in Indian homes. It is a little bigger than the old 250x375 wall tile, and it is often sold with matching light, dark and highlighter pieces so you can plan a full bathroom or kitchen wall from one series.
Size in feet and where it is used
300 x 450 mm works out to about 1 x 1.5 ft. It is mostly a wall size, used on:
- Bathroom walls, from floor to ceiling or up to door height
- Kitchen walls and backsplashes
- Utility and wash area walls
Coverage per tile
| Detail | Value |
|---|---|
| Size | 300 x 450 mm (about 1 x 1.5 ft) |
| Area per tile | about 1.45 sq ft |
| Tiles per 100 sq ft (before wastage) | about 69 |
The working: 300 x 450 = 135,000 sq mm, divided by 92,903 sq mm per sq ft, gives 1.45 sq ft. For walls, subtract the door and window area, then add around 10 percent for cuts. Our tile calculator and how much extra to buy guide help with this.

Tile types you usually find in this size
- Glossy and matt ceramic wall tiles
- Series with a light base tile, a darker tile and a decorative highlighter
- Plain colours, marble prints and stone or concrete prints
Most of these are ceramic wall tiles with higher water absorption than floor tiles. That is normal for walls but it is why they are generally not suited to floors.
Laying and handling tips
- Decide on vertical or horizontal laying before you buy, since it changes how many cuts you get at the ceiling and corners.
- Plan where the highlighter row goes (often at eye level or behind the mirror) so it lines up with taps and fittings.
- Keep the first row perfectly level. Walls in older homes are rarely straight, so a level line matters more than the floor edge.
- Check shade and batch numbers on all boxes. Our batch and shade guide explains why.
Doing up a bathroom or kitchen wall?
Measure each wall's width and height in feet and bring a photo of the space. Call the shop to ask which 300x450 series are available right now.
Common questions
How many 300x450 mm tiles do I need for 100 sq ft of wall?
Each tile covers about 1.45 sq ft, so roughly 69 tiles for 100 sq ft before wastage. Add extra for cuts around windows, taps and corners.
Can I use 300x450 tiles on the floor?
Most tiles in this size are made as wall tiles and are not meant for foot traffic. Check the product details or ask the shop before using any on a floor.
Should I lay 300x450 tiles vertically or horizontally?
Both are fine. Vertical makes a low ceiling feel a bit taller, horizontal makes a narrow wall feel wider.
How many 300x450 tiles are in one box?
Box quantity changes from one manufacturer to another, so ask for the exact design you choose instead of assuming a number.
